The 21st Lola Torres European Traditional Gastronomy Award goes to the Paz Nogueira restaurant

The Friends of Galicia Foundation, in collaboration with O Grove Town Council, announced the winners of the 21st Lola Torres European Traditional Gastronomy Award on Wednesday in the Sala de las Conchas, an award with a long history that takes its name from a local chef who founded the Finisterre restaurant in 1951, where she made dishes such as ‘asado jacobeo’ with veal and hake in Albariño wine famous, amongst many other creations that set new standards. Posthumously, in 2022, she was honoured with the Álvaro Cunqueiro Prize for her contribution to gastronomy. And that was the origin of the prestigious award that now bears her name.

This year, the jury decided to award the Lola Torres Prize to the Compostela restaurant Paz Nogueira, founded in the Castiñeiriño neighbourhood in 1840. The establishment’s history spans six generations of the same family, and it was chosen for its extraordinary track record in preserving, promoting and passing on traditional Galician cuisine, as well as for upholding the family tradition.

Both the president of Amigos de Galicia, Ramiro Varela, and Rafael Mourelos, representing Lola Torres’s family, congratulated O Grove Town Council on organising the Seafood Festival and for showcasing the produce of the estuaries.
