Local artist Diego Vites has designed the poster for the 2027 Festa do Marisco.

On Saturday, O Grove Town Council unveiled the poster for the upcoming edition of the Festa do Marisco – the sixty-fourth – designed by local artist Diego Vites, who said he had taken on the commission with great enthusiasm and also as a challenge.

The work is a composition created in the studio, in which he recreates the typical atmosphere of a traditional tavern – a place the artist believes was the true birthplace of the Festa do Marisco. It is, moreover, an atmosphere that interests him, as it was a place where a great deal of folk sculpture was produced using leftover shellfish or fishing gear – something reflected in the painting itself, which also features a spider crab with a glass of wine and a plate of clams.

Vites also drew inspiration for the composition of the piece from José Luis Sáez’s collection of old postcards. One of these images is depicted in the background of the painting. He decided to steer clear of digital media, but to use the Fontoira typeface – created by Rubén Prol and Lino Prieto and inspired by the original sketches of the sailor Ricardo Fontoira – which complements the work. For the layout, he enlisted the help of his partner, Sol Álvarez, who assisted him in designing the poster.

The mayor, José Cacabelos, and the Councillor for Tourism, María López, unveiled the poster in front of the statue of the shellfish-gathering family in O Corgo Square, alongside the artist and to the applause and acclaim of the public who had gathered there.
